CWG 2026: Parul, Sreeshankar headline India’s action on Day 6; six boxers in medal hunt

India’s campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 gathers pace on Wednesday, with athletes Parul Chaudhary and Murali Sreeshankar leading the country’s medal hopes, while six Indian boxers will look to secure podium finishes by advancing to the semi-finals.

Asian Games medallist Parul Chaudhary will compete in the women’s 3000m steeplechase final, aiming for her maiden Commonwealth Games medal. Long jumper Murali Sreeshankar, who won silver at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, will be among the favourites in the men’s long jump final as he chases a second CWG medal.

India will also begin its men’s shot put campaign with national record holder Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill featuring in the qualification round, while sprinter Animesh Kujur will compete in the men’s 200m heats.

In boxing, six Indian pugilists will be in quarter-final action at the SEC Centre, with victories guaranteeing them at least bronze medals. Sakshi Chaudhary (51kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), Jaismine Lamboria (57kg), Sachin Siwach (60kg), Ankush (80kg) and Narender Berwal (+90kg) will all be in action.

India have already assured themselves of four boxing medals after Lovlina Borgohain, Preeti Pawar, Priya Ghanghas and Jadumani Singh advanced to the semi-finals.

The final day of the swimming competition will see Srihari Nataraj compete in the men’s 100m backstroke final if he qualifies, while Sajan Prakash and Aneesh Gowda will contest the 200m freestyle. Aryan Nehra is set to compete in the men’s 1500m freestyle final.

In weightlifting, Sanjana will represent India in the women’s 77kg final.

India will also feature in bowls, para athletics and para swimming, with medal opportunities in the men’s discus throw, men’s 100m T47 and men’s S7 50m freestyle events.
