The Centre on Sunday held an all-party meeting ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chairing discussions with leaders of political parties at the Parliament House Complex in New Delhi.
The meeting, convened by Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, was attended by 58 leaders representing 40 political parties, including Union ministers.
Among those present were Union Health and Family Welfare Minister and Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha Jagat Prakash Nadda, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan.
Opening the meeting, Singh welcomed the leaders before Rijiju briefed them on the schedule for the upcoming Monsoon Session. He informed the participants that the session would commence on July 20 and, subject to the exigencies of government business, conclude on August 13. The session is scheduled to have 19 sittings over a period of 25 days.
Rijiju also informed the leaders that the legislative business for the Monsoon Session had already been published in Bulletin Part-II by the Secretariats of both Houses of Parliament on July 16.
Seeking cooperation from all political parties, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister said the government was committed to ensuring the smooth functioning of Parliament and was prepared to discuss any other important issues on the floor of both Houses, as permitted under their respective Rules of Procedure.
During the meeting, leaders of various political parties outlined the issues they are likely to raise during the forthcoming session and assured the government of their cooperation. Rijiju took note of the concerns raised and thanked the participants for their views and active participation.
Concluding the meeting, Singh expressed his appreciation to all the leaders for attending the discussions, sharing their views and contributing to the deliberations ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
