India Post has recorded its highest-ever first-quarter revenue of ₹4,009 crore in the first quarter of FY 2026–27, registering a 22 per cent year-on-year growth, Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said on Tuesday.
The announcement was made during the Quarterly Business Review Meeting of the Department of Posts held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The meeting, chaired by Scindia, was attended by Minister of State for Communications Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani and Heads of Postal Circles from across the country to review the Department’s performance and chart its future business strategy.
Reviewing the Department’s performance, Scindia said India Post has made a strong start to the financial year, achieving ₹4,009 crore in revenue against the quarterly target of ₹4,951 crore, equivalent to 81 per cent of the Q1 target. The Department has set an annual revenue target of ₹19,803 crore for FY 2026–27.
Congratulating employees across the country, the Union Minister said the milestone reflects the Department’s continued efforts towards modernisation, business transformation and customer-centric service delivery under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building a digitally empowered and future-ready postal network.
“India Post has commenced FY 2026–27 on a positive trajectory. This achievement reflects the dedication and unwavering commitment of the entire India Post family in strengthening service delivery and driving business transformation,” Scindia said.
Citizen-centric services lead growth
Among the Department’s six business verticals, Citizen Centric Services (CCS) recorded the highest year-on-year growth of 86 per cent, followed by Parcels (50 per cent), Mails (42 per cent), International Relations and Global Business (34 per cent), Postal Life Insurance/Rural Postal Life Insurance (20 per cent) and Post Office Savings Bank (10 per cent).
Overall, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal emerged as the top-performing Postal Circles during the quarter.
Across individual business segments, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh led in Citizen Centric Services, Bihar and Tamil Nadu topped Parcel services, Andhra Pradesh ranked highest in Mail services, while West Bengal and Jammu & Kashmir led in PLI/RPLI. Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand were the best performers in Post Office Savings Bank, and Kerala and Rajasthan topped the International Relations and Global Business segment.
Significant improvement in operational efficiency
The review also highlighted substantial improvements in operational efficiency across the postal network.
During the first quarter, the number of Branch Post Offices reporting nil business transactions declined by over 92 per cent in Post Office Savings Bank, 97 per cent in PLI/RPLI, and 99 per cent in Speed Post and Parcel services compared to the corresponding period last year.
Scindia directed all Postal Circles to sustain the momentum through focused monitoring, customer outreach and enhanced business generation at every Branch Post Office.
The Minister also noted improvements in the Department’s financial sustainability. The Expenditure Coverage Ratio (ECR) improved from 28 per cent to 32 per cent (including pension) and from 41 per cent to 47 per cent (excluding pension) compared with the first quarter of FY 2025–26.
He appreciated the performance of Delhi, Telangana and Chhattisgarh in improving the ECR and called upon all Circles to further strengthen revenue generation while maintaining expenditure discipline.
Focus on parcels, mails and global business
While appreciating the overall performance, Scindia said the Parcel, Mail and International Relations & Global Business verticals require greater attention during the remaining quarters of the financial year.
He directed Postal Circles to intensify customer acquisition, deepen engagement with corporate and institutional clients, expand strategic partnerships and strengthen execution through regular monitoring and timely corrective measures.
The Minister also advocated a cluster-based approach, grouping states into three clusters to facilitate peer learning, knowledge sharing and targeted interventions.
“Monthly performance reviews, data-driven decision-making, greater accountability and stronger field-level execution will be critical for achieving the Department’s ambitious business targets for FY 2026–27,” Scindia said.
Minister of State for Communications Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani attributed the Department’s strong performance to regular reviews, systematic monitoring and the commitment of postal employees across the country.
“The significant improvement in business performance reflects the transformative impact of focused leadership, accountability and collective effort. Consistent performance by every Postal Circle will be key to achieving the Department’s ambitious revenue targets while further strengthening India Post’s service delivery and institutional transformation,” Pemmasani said.
