Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday attended the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting in Parliament along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other senior leaders of the ruling alliance ahead of a crucial day in the Monsoon Session.
The weekly meeting, held every Tuesday when Parliament is in session, is aimed at ensuring coordination among NDA partners and finalising the government’s floor strategy. Recently renamed ‘Mangal Milan’, it serves as a forum for the ruling alliance to discuss parliamentary business and legislative priorities.
The meeting assumes significance as the government prepares to seek the passage of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, in the Lok Sabha later in the day amid continuing disruptions by the Opposition.
For the first time, Members of Parliament from the National Congress Party of India (NCPI), who recently broke away from the Trinamool Congress, participated in the NDA’s parliamentary strategy meeting. NCPI MPs Kakoli Ghosh, Shatabdi Roy and Saayoni Ghosh attended the session.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh and several other NDA MPs also participated in the meeting, held at the G.M.C. Balayogi Auditorium in the Parliament complex.
The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday by Jitendra Singh amid loud sloganeering by Opposition members. The Bill seeks to amend the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
According to the government, the proposed amendments are aimed at strengthening the legal framework against paper leaks and other examination malpractices while enhancing transparency and integrity in the public examination system. The Bill proposes stricter penalties, including imprisonment of up to 10 years, fines of up to ₹10 crore, and a mechanism to ensure cases are disposed of within three months.
