PM Modi shares article highlighting Bharat Tex 2026 as showcase of India’s textile strength and Vision 2030

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday shared an article by Union Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita, highlighting Bharat Tex 2026 as a reflection of India’s manufacturing strength, rich textile heritage and the country’s Vision 2030 roadmap for the textile sector.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Union MoS Shri Pabitra Margherita writes that Bharat Tex 2026 brings India’s complete textile value chain under one roof, showcasing the country’s manufacturing strength, rich textile heritage and growing global presence. It also reflects India’s Vision 2030 roadmap for the textile sector.”

In his article, Margherita described the event as India’s definitive global textile exhibition, bringing together the country’s diverse textile traditions and industrial capabilities at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from July 14 to 17.

The minister said India’s textiles represent both its cultural diversity and economic strength, citing examples ranging from Kashmir’s Pashmina and Assam’s Muga silk to Rajasthan’s Bandhani and Tamil Nadu’s Kanjeevaram silk. He said Bharat Tex 2026 brings this diversity together on a single platform.

Highlighting the sector’s contribution to the economy, Margherita noted that the textile industry accounts for 2.3 per cent of India’s GDP, 13 per cent of industrial production and 8.6 per cent of exports. He added that the industry is India’s second-largest employer after agriculture, supporting the livelihoods of more than 100 million people, while strengthening rural communities and creating economic opportunities for women.

Describing Bharat Tex as India’s largest textile trade fair, the minister said the event serves as a comprehensive marketplace that brings together domestic manufacturers, state pavilions, international exhibitors and global buyers under one roof, facilitating sourcing, corporate engagement and brand promotion on an unprecedented scale.

Reflecting on the journey of the event, Margherita recalled PM Modi’s remarks during the previous edition, when he had said that the initiative had grown from a seed into a banyan tree, symbolising both India’s rich textile traditions and the country’s aspirations for a developed economy. He said the success of the first two editions, which attracted large numbers of international buyers and fostered government-to-government and business-to-government engagements, had laid a strong foundation for the current edition.

The minister said Bharat Tex 2026 represents a carefully designed industrial strategy. Spread across multiple exhibition halls at Bharat Mandapam, the event showcases the complete textile value chain, including fibre, yarn, fabric, apparel, fashion, home textiles, technical textiles and ancillary industries.

More than 1,600 exhibitors are participating in the event, reflecting PM Modi’s 5F vision – Farm to Fibre, Fibre to Factory, Factory to Fashion and Fashion to Foreign. Margherita said integrating the entire value chain into a single platform demonstrates India’s self-reliant manufacturing capabilities across every stage of textile production.

The minister said the exhibition has received a strong international response, with exhibitors from 14 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Portugal, Spain, New Zealand, South Korea, South Africa and Nepal. Institutional participation from the United Nations and the European Union, along with ministerial delegations and senior business representatives from several countries, is expected to strengthen long-term partnerships.

Bharat Tex 2026 is expected to attract more than 7,000 buyers from over 110 countries and around 1.3 lakh trade visitors over four days. More than 20,000 textile products are on display, supported by over 3,500 curated business-to-business meetings and dedicated State Investor Connect sessions, enabling Indian states to showcase their industrial infrastructure and investment opportunities.

Margherita said the event also places strong emphasis on knowledge-sharing through the Global Textile Dialogue, which includes more than 100 curated sessions, comprising panel discussions, roundtables, masterclasses, state sessions, award pitch fests and workshops.

The sessions will be led by over 370 national and international CXOs, policymakers and innovators, focusing on trade and investment, technology and innovation, fashion and craft. Several strategic agreements and sectoral reports relating to trade, investment, technology and institutional collaboration are also expected to be signed during the event.

The minister highlighted sustainability as a key focus area of Bharat Tex 2026, stating that the exhibition demonstrates how modern technologies can complement traditional textile practices to improve resource efficiency, minimise waste and benefit weavers and artisans.

He said the Ministry of Textiles, under the leadership of Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh, has accelerated modernisation initiatives and strengthened policy support to enhance the competitiveness of India’s textile sector.

Margherita highlighted several government initiatives supporting the industry. He said the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Textiles has attracted investment commitments of over ₹31,687 crore, boosting manufacturing of man-made fibre apparel, fabrics and technical textiles while generating employment.

He also noted that seven PM MITRA Parks are being developed as integrated textile manufacturing ecosystems aligned with the Prime Minister’s 5F vision.

The minister said grassroots empowerment has also received significant attention. Under the National Handloom Development Programme, nearly ₹2,000 crore has been invested across 794 handloom clusters, benefiting 1.17 lakh weavers with upgraded looms and providing skill training to around 90,000 workers.

Additionally, over ₹1,335 crore has been invested under the National Handicrafts Development Programme, while more than 1.5 lakh weavers have been onboarded onto the Government e-Marketplace (GeM). The Weavers’ MUDRA Scheme has also provided collateral-free loans to nearly three lakh beneficiaries, he added.

Margherita said these initiatives have strengthened India’s textile ecosystem by directly connecting manufacturers, artisans and innovators with global markets, preparing the sector for expanded international engagement.

Looking ahead, the minister said Bharat Tex 2026 represents an important milestone in India’s Vision 2030 roadmap to transform the country’s textile industry into a USD 350 billion global powerhouse, supporting the broader national objective of achieving Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Inviting stakeholders to participate in the event, Margherita said Bharat Tex 2026 offers an opportunity to witness the strength of India’s textile workforce, innovation ecosystem and manufacturing capabilities, while showcasing textiles that are “proudly designed, sustainably made and integrated at scale in India.”
