Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said the state government has maintained an uninterrupted supply of essential food items to flood-affected families since the beginning of the current flood situation, with more than 48.5 lakh kg of rice distributed across the state.
Sharing details of the government’s flood response in a post on X, Sarma said the administration remained committed to ensuring that essential supplies reached affected families without interruption.
“Never once faltering, never once stepping back when our people need us. Since Day 1, essential food items have been reaching flood affected families across Assam. We will continue to be there, every step of the way,” Sarma said.
According to figures shared by the Chief Minister, 48,55,864 kg of rice has been distributed among flood-affected people since the beginning of the relief operation.
The relief effort has also included the distribution of 10,15,785 kg of dal, 4,00,794 kg of salt and 1,63,549 litres of mustard oil, providing basic food and cooking essentials to affected families.
The state government has been coordinating relief and rehabilitation measures through district administrations and other agencies to ensure supplies reach communities affected by the floods.
Assam faces recurring floods during the monsoon due to heavy rainfall, rising water levels in the Brahmaputra and its tributaries, and runoff from neighbouring states. The flooding regularly affects people across several districts and can damage homes, agricultural land, roads and other infrastructure.
Sarma said the government would continue to support flood-affected families and remain present “every step of the way” until the situation improves.
