Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) General N.S. Raja Subramani on Monday inaugurated the Fourth Edition of the Tri-Services Future Warfare Course at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi, highlighting the rapidly evolving nature of warfare and the growing importance of emerging technologies in shaping future military operations.
Delivering the keynote address at the inaugural session, the CDS emphasised the need for India’s Armed Forces to anticipate future security challenges and strengthen their capability to respond effectively across multiple operational domains. He said the changing character of warfare demands continuous adaptation and greater preparedness to address evolving threats.
General Raja Subramani highlighted the increasing influence of artificial intelligence, cyber capabilities, autonomous systems, information warfare, space technologies and data-driven decision-making in determining the future course of conflicts. He noted that technological advancements are transforming military strategies and operational planning, making it essential for the Armed Forces to remain at the forefront of innovation.
The CDS also stressed the importance of enhancing jointness, integration and collaboration among the three Services while strengthening partnerships with industry, academia and the research community. Such collaboration, he said, would play a critical role in improving India’s defence preparedness and developing capabilities required for future battlefields.
Organised by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS), the four-week course brings together officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force, along with representatives from government departments, industry, academia and strategic institutions.
During the course, participants will engage in discussions on a wide range of subjects, including geopolitics, emerging technologies, cognitive and cyber warfare, multi-domain operations, scenario-building and technology-enabled warfare.
