CWG 2026: Lovlina Borgohain Dedicates Boxing Silver to Assam Flood Victims

Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain has dedicated her silver medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to the flood-affected people of Assam, a gesture that has drawn widespread appreciation and sparked celebrations across her home state.

Borgohain, who finished with a silver medal in the boxing competition, chose to dedicate her achievement to thousands of people affected by the devastating floods that have displaced families and caused extensive damage across Assam.

Her gesture was welcomed as a mark of solidarity with flood-hit communities during a challenging period for the state.

Celebrations broke out in Borgohain’s home district following her success, with residents and members of the sporting fraternity expressing pride in her achievement on the international stage. Her decision to dedicate the medal to flood victims further strengthened her bond with the people of Assam.

Congratulating the boxer, Assam Boxing Association Organising Secretary Dev Baruah hailed Borgohain as the “daughter of Assam” and praised her for bringing laurels to the state.

“She (Lovlina Borgohain) has devoted the medal to the flood-affected people of Assam. Unfortunately, she could not come here before the people as she was in Glasgow. But we want to congratulate her,” Baruah told IANS.

Recalling her early career, he said, “She made her debut from Dergaon soil and motivates the younger generation and budding boxers whenever she comes. Our Association congratulates her on her grand success in the Commonwealth Games.”

Borgohain’s latest medal adds another milestone to her distinguished career and further highlights Assam’s growing contribution to Indian boxing. Her achievement has also provided a morale boost to people in the state amid the ongoing flood situation.

The Assam Boxing Association and sports enthusiasts across the state extended their congratulations to Borgohain, expressing hope that her success would inspire more young athletes from the region to excel in boxing and other sports.
