The Ministry of Coal has successfully auctioned six coal blocks under the 15th round and the second attempt of the 13th round of commercial coal mine auctions, a move expected to boost domestic coal production, attract fresh investments and generate significant employment.
The auctions, launched on April 17, 2026, concluded with forward bidding conducted on August 3 and 4. Of the six coal blocks auctioned, four are fully explored while two are partially explored. Together, they hold geological reserves of about 1,503.93 million tonnes and have a cumulative Peak Rated Capacity (PRC) of 11.62 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
The auctioned coal blocks include Dip Side Extension of PKOC in Telangana, Dongeri Tal-II and Mandla South in Madhya Pradesh, Margo East and Margo West in Jharkhand, and Tara (Revised) in Chhattisgarh.
Among the successful bidders, The Singareni Collieries Company Limited secured the Dip Side Extension of PKOC block in Telangana, while Gallantt Ispat Limited won Dongeri Tal-II in Madhya Pradesh. Qube Commercial Private Limited emerged as the successful bidder for Mandla South, and Jharkhand Exploration and Mining Corporation Limited secured both the Margo East and Margo West coal blocks in Jharkhand. CG Syn-Gas and Chemicals Limited won the Tara (Revised) block in Chhattisgarh, submitting the highest final revenue-sharing offer of 37.5 per cent.
According to the Ministry, the six coal blocks are expected to generate annual revenue of nearly ₹1,983.67 crore, attract capital investment of around ₹1,743 crore, and create approximately 15,710 employment opportunities in coal-bearing regions.
The latest auction further strengthens India’s commercial coal mining programme launched in 2020. With these additions, the government has successfully auctioned 147 coal blocks, having a combined production capacity of 377.97 million tonnes per annum.
The Ministry said that once operational, these mines will significantly enhance domestic coal production, reduce dependence on imports and contribute to India’s goal of achieving self-reliance in the coal sector.
Collectively, the 147 auctioned coal blocks are projected to generate annual revenue of about ₹48,215 crore, attract capital investments of ₹54,315 crore, and create nearly 4.9 lakh employment opportunities across coal-producing states.
The Ministry said the successful auctions reaffirm the government’s commitment to transforming the coal sector into a key driver of economic growth while ensuring energy security, attracting private investment and supporting the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
