India and Lesotho reviewed the full spectrum of their bilateral relationship during the sixth meeting of the India-Lesotho Joint Bilateral Commission for Cooperation (JBCC) held in New Delhi on July 30, reaffirming their commitment to expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
The meeting was co-chaired by Janesh Kain, Joint Secretary (East & Southern Africa), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and Thabang P. Lekhela, Principal Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations of Lesotho.
During the discussions, both sides reviewed progress in bilateral ties and explored ways to strengthen cooperation in areas including trade and economic relations, development partnership, skilling and capacity building, as well as collaboration at regional and multilateral forums.
As part of the visit, the Lesotho delegation met Secretary (Economic Relations) Sudhakar Dalela in the Ministry of External Affairs on July 31. The delegation also held separate discussions with officials from the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and the Department of Commerce to identify new opportunities for cooperation in sectors of mutual interest.
According to the MEA, India and Lesotho reiterated the strong friendship between the two countries, underpinned by their shared commitment to promoting South-South cooperation and enhancing development partnerships.
Both sides agreed to continue expanding bilateral engagement and decided that the next meeting of the Joint Bilateral Commission for Cooperation will be held in Maseru, Lesotho, in 2027.
