The Indian community in Hong Kong celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with a gala evening reception organised by the Indian Association in Hong Kong.
The event was attended by Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) John Lee Ka-chiu and India’s Consul General in Hong Kong Rajesh Naik, among other dignitaries.
In a post on X, the Consul General of India in Hong Kong said the event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, business leaders and the Indian diaspora to mark the historic occasion.
Addressing the gathering, John Lee lauded the dynamic Indian community for its significant and long-standing contributions to Hong Kong’s socio-economic development.
He also highlighted the growing bilateral ties between India and Hong Kong, particularly in areas such as trade, economic growth and partnerships.
Consul General Rajesh Naik, in his address, highlighted India’s rapid economic growth, technological advancements and inclusive development under the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’.
He also commended the Indian community in Hong Kong for serving as a living bridge between India and Hong Kong and for preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage abroad.
Naik also acknowledged the support extended by the Hong Kong SAR Government and its leadership towards the Indian community.
The celebration brought together members of the Indian diaspora and representatives from diplomatic and business circles, highlighting the deep-rooted ties and goodwill between the communities.
Last month, Consul General Naik paid tribute at the Indian Soldiers War Memorial at a Hindu temple in Hong Kong to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas.
