Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday released the autobiography of former President Ram Nath Kovind, titled “Triumph of the Indian Republic: My Life, My Struggles”, at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
Speaking at the book release event, Prime Minister Modi said the autobiography reflects Shri Kovind’s life dedicated to public service and the progress of the nation. He said the book would serve as an important source of inspiration, particularly for the younger generation.
The Prime Minister said his long association with Kovind, his guidance during his tenure as President and his affection and warmth towards him have been among his greatest assets.
Describing the autobiography as a valuable contribution to Indian democracy and society, PM Modi said the book would preserve not only important memories of Kovind’s life but also significant moments in the country’s democratic journey.
Reflecting on the title of the book, the Prime Minister said the struggles described in it are personal to Shri Kovind, while the triumph resulting from those struggles belongs to the Republic of India and its democracy.
PM Modi recalled Shri Kovind’s difficult childhood and the loss of his mother in a house fire in Kanpur Dehat. He said the support extended by a neighbouring family following the tragedy helped shape Shri Kovind’s understanding of social harmony and strengthened his resolve.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the role played by Kovind’s father in raising the family and instilling strong values in his children. He said Shri Kovind considers his father his hero.
Highlighting the importance of education in Kovind’s life, Prime Minister Modi said he did not allow limited resources to become an obstacle and eventually reached the highest constitutional office in the country.
Recalling Kovind’s visit to his native village Paraunkh after becoming President, the Prime Minister referred to his gesture of bowing to the soil and seeking the blessings of his former teachers. He said the gesture reflected India’s values and was a matter of pride for the country.
The Prime Minister also linked Kovind’s journey with the vision of social equality pursued by Mahatma Gandhi, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule. He said these leaders had envisioned an India where the poorest and most disadvantaged sections could have the opportunity to reach the highest positions.
PM Modi said individuals such as Shri Kovind had not only transformed their own lives through hard work and ability but had also contributed to the realisation of this long-standing national vision.
He said Kovind’s journey from his early years to his service in Parliament, as Governor and later as President demonstrates a consistent commitment to public service.
The Prime Minister also highlighted Kovind’s continued involvement in national issues after demitting office, including his work related to ‘One Nation, One Election’. He said its implementation could open a new chapter in India’s democratic journey.
Calling for dedicated and resilient youth to carry forward the country’s development journey, PM Modi said the inspiration required to build such a generation could be drawn from Shri Kovind’s life and experiences.
