Lok Sabha adjourned till 2 pm amid opposition protests

Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 p.m. on Tuesday shortly after the House reconvened, following persistent sloganeering by Opposition members demanding the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

As the House assembled, Speaker Om Birla urged members to return to their seats and allow Question Hour to proceed, describing it as an important part of parliamentary business. However, the Opposition continued its protests, prompting the Speaker to adjourn the House till 2 p.m.

The Monsoon Session has witnessed repeated disruptions over the past several days, with Opposition parties pressing for a discussion on the alleged NEET paper leak and seeking a statement from the Home Minister over the police action during protests at Jantar Mantar on July 20.

On Monday, the Lok Sabha passed the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026 through a voice vote, amid persistent sloganeering by the opposition.

Under the proposed law, the sanctioned strength of Supreme Court judges will increase from 33 to 37, excluding the Chief Justice of India, taking the total strength of the apex court from 34 to 38 judges.
