Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Mysuru on Saturday to inaugurate the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre (Viveka Smaraka) at the Ramakrishna Ashrama, where he was received by Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot.
The Chief Minister welcomed the Prime Minister at the Mysuru helipad by presenting him with a shawl and a bouquet before the two leaders proceeded to the inauguration venue.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the Viveka Smaraka, a memorial established to commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s historic visit to Mysuru in 1892 during his journey across India, prior to his landmark address at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893.
Following the inauguration, PM Modi will visit the Ramakrishna Ashrama School before departing for New Delhi from Mysuru Airport on a special aircraft.
Ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, Mysuru was placed under extensive security cover, with authorities enforcing stringent security measures and traffic restrictions across the city.
More than 1,000 police personnel have been deployed under the supervision of South Zone Inspector General of Police M.B. Boralingaiah. The security arrangement includes one Superintendent of Police, one Police Commissioner, four Additional Superintendents of Police, 18 Police Inspectors, 40 Sub-Inspectors, 550 male police personnel, 350 women police personnel and 250 Home Guards.
Security has been intensified around the Ramakrishna Ashrama, Oval Grounds, Mysuru Airport, and along the Prime Minister’s convoy route. Authorities have also restricted traffic on 12 major roads in the city to facilitate VVIP movement and ensure security during the visit.
