Defence Minister Rajnath Singh urged officer trainees of the Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES) to adopt a people-centric approach and discharge their responsibilities with a strong sense of public service.
Officer Trainees of the 2025 batch of IDES, currently undergoing training at the National Institute of Defence Estates Management (NIDEM), met Singh in New Delhi on Monday.
During the interaction, the Defence Minister appreciated the role of the Defence Estates Department in managing defence land and overseeing the municipal administration of Cantonment Boards across the country.
Singh emphasised that public servants have an important role in meeting the evolving aspirations of citizens. He called upon civil servants to work with utmost ‘Seva Bhav’ and ensure that government services are delivered in a people-friendly manner.
The Defence Minister advised the trainee officers to maintain regular contact with the public and listen carefully to their grievances. He said engaging directly with people would help officers understand their concerns and provide them with a sense of assurance.
Singh also stressed the importance of maintaining both physical and mental well-being among public servants and young officers. He encouraged the trainees to follow a spiritual path and practise meditation as part of maintaining overall well-being.
Director General Defence Estates Shobha Gupta was also present during the interaction.
