Vice President C P Radhakrishnan on Saturday said educational institutions must move beyond imparting basic education and evolve into global centres of knowledge, research and innovation.
Addressing the Founders’ Day celebrations and inauguration of ‘Arivukoodam’ of the Kongu Vellalar Institute of Technology (KVIT) Trust at Perundurai in Erode district, Radhakrishnan said research, innovation and strong industry-academia collaboration were essential for India’s continued progress.
The Vice President appreciated the vision of the institution’s 41 founders and noted that nearly one lakh people had received education through KVIT institutions. He said their contribution had played a significant role in the growth of education in the Kongu region and commended the institutions for developing global linkages with countries including Germany, the US, France and Japan.
Radhakrishnan urged young people to continuously upgrade their knowledge and move beyond basic education towards research-oriented learning. He called upon students to pursue research, innovation and patents and prepare themselves for emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, semiconductors, quantum technology, biotechnology and digital technology.
Emphasising that “change is the only constant”, he urged youth to recognise their strengths, set clear goals and persevere without comparing themselves with others. He also highlighted the importance of yoga and meditation for mental well-being and sharper intellect, quoting Swami Vivekananda: “You become what you think.”
The Vice President expressed confidence that ‘Arivukoodam’ would emerge as a hub for research, innovation and knowledge creation, helping strengthen the institutions as global knowledge centres and contributing to social transformation and national development.
During the programme, Radhakrishnan visited an exhibition organised by the Technology Business Incubator of Kongu Engineering College, showcasing innovative projects and technological solutions.
MoUs were also exchanged in his presence between Anchor Industries and Arivukoodam — A Research Park, aimed at strengthening industry-academia collaboration and promoting research and innovation.
Radhakrishnan felicitated distinguished individuals associated with the college and the Trust. He also unveiled plaques commemorating the laying of foundation stones for Arivukoodam — A Research Park, the Pharmacy College, Kongu Naturopathy and Yoga Medical College, and the Cloud Kitchen of KVITT.
Tamil Nadu and Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Supreme Court Judge Justice M M Sundresh, KVIT Trust Chairman Devarajan and other dignitaries attended the programme.
