Belgian PM Bart De Wever to visit India from September 2-4

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever will undertake an official visit to India from September 2 to 4 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

De Wever will be accompanied by Belgian Defence Minister Theo Francken during the three-day visit, which will be his first visit to India since assuming office in February 2025.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that the Belgian Prime Minister is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with PM Modi on September 3. The two leaders will discuss the entire spectrum of India-Belgium relations as well as regional and global issues of mutual interest.

The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for both sides to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across key areas, including trade and investment, defence and security, technology, renewable energy, connectivity and people-to-people ties.

De Wever will also deliver a keynote address at a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) business event, with discussions expected to focus on the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Following his engagements in New Delhi, De Wever will travel to Mumbai, where he is scheduled to meet stakeholders from sectors including diamonds, ports and logistics.

The visit is also aimed at deepening India’s engagement with the European Union and Europe, alongside strengthening the broader India-Belgium partnership.
