The CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR) is leveraging SARAL AI, an initiative of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), New Delhi, to convert research published in its journals into engaging and accessible videos, with the aim of making scientific knowledge easier to discover, understand and share, particularly among students and the general public.
The initiative is in line with the Government’s emphasis on adopting emerging technologies to strengthen the communication and dissemination of science and research. Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister for Science and Technology, has recently encouraged scientific institutions to use SARAL AI, with CSIR-NIScPR emerging as a leading organisation in its adoption, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Dr Geetha Vani Rayasam, Director, CSIR-NIScPR, said, “Scientific knowledge creates greater value when it reaches beyond the research community. By embracing new-age technologies such as SARAL AI, CSIR-NIScPR is working to make Indian research more accessible and reach wider and more diverse audiences.”
The initiative draws impetus from the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF)’s emphasis on promoting wider dissemination of scientific knowledge and making research more accessible to society.
During a visit to NIScPR, Dr Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, CEO, ANRF, highlighted SARAL AI as a tool that can create short videos from research papers published in journals. He encouraged the Institute to explore the technology to simplify complex scientific research and communicate it effectively to the general public.
