Parts of Jharkhand received light to moderate rainfall in the 24 hours till Tuesday morning, with rain likely to intensify later in the day and be accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds of up to 40 kmph, the meteorological office said.
Bokaro-Thermal recorded the highest rainfall at 80 mm, followed by East Singhbhum at 52.5 mm and Hazaribag at 24 mm.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state is likely to experience overcast conditions and rainfall till September 5.
The weather office has issued an orange warning for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning in eight districts — Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega, Seraikela-Kharsawan and West Singhbhum — till Wednesday morning.
Northwestern districts, along with Gumla, Simdega and West Singhbhum in the southwest, are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Wednesday. Similar weather conditions are expected in several parts of the state on Thursday and Friday.
The maximum temperature is likely to fall by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days due to rainfall and overcast conditions.
“We have issued an ‘orange’ warning for isolated thunderstorms and lightning in nine districts for Tuesday and a ‘yellow’ alert for all 24 districts for the next three days. The wind speed will be up to 30-40 kmph. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur in several districts,” said Abhishek Anand, deputy director of the weather office here.
