PM Modi holds bilateral meeting with Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim on sidelines of BRICS Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.

PM Modi warmly welcomed Ibrahim to India and appreciated Malaysia’s participation in the BRICS Summit as a partner country.

The two leaders took stock of the outcomes of PM Modi’s visit to Malaysia in February 2026 and reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation across several areas, including trade and investment, defence and security, semiconductors, infrastructure, digital economy, energy, fintech, education, tourism and people-to-people ties.

Ibrahim conveyed Malaysia’s concurrence with the establishment of an Indian Consulate General in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

PM Modi appreciated Malaysia’s continued support for strengthening ASEAN-India relations. The two leaders also exchanged views on key regional and global issues of mutual interest.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the India-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
