Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday welcomed world leaders at Bharat Mandapam, the venue of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, ahead of the open session on ‘Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth’.
PM Modi welcomed Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Ugandan Vice President Jessica Alupo with warm handshakes.
The leaders are participating in the open session, which focuses on the core pillars of India’s BRICS chairship — resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability.
The session is being held at the Summit Hall inside Bharat Mandapam and forms part of the two-day BRICS Summit being hosted by India on September 12 and 13 under the theme ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’.
The open session provides an opportunity for BRICS leaders to deliberate on areas of common interest, strengthen cooperation among member countries and advance an inclusive approach to global growth.
On the second day of the summit, PM Modi is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with leaders from seven countries.
He is set to meet South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Philippine President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye, Ugandan Vice President Jessica Alupo and Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima.
PM Modi will meet President Ramaphosa on the sidelines of the summit. South Africa has been a core member of BRICS.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit on Saturday.
His bilateral engagements with leaders from Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Burundi, Uganda and Nigeria are expected to further strengthen India’s ties with partner countries across Asia and Africa. (ANI)
