Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Monday interacted with students at Mizoram University during his two-day visit to Mizoram, highlighting the Northeast’s rich cultural heritage, traditions and development potential.
The Minister also interacted with students from Goa and Chandigarh who are visiting the Northeast under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region’s (DoNER) Ashtalakshmi Darshan Programme, discussing their experiences and perspectives on the region.
Addressing the students, Scindia emphasised that such exchanges provide young people with an opportunity to understand the Northeast’s cultural diversity and development prospects. He said these initiatives help strengthen mutual understanding, cultural ties and national integration.
Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of developing the eight northeastern states as the nation’s Ashtalakshmi, the programme enables students from different parts of the country to experience the region’s rich cultural traditions and development opportunities firsthand.
More than 590 students have participated in the Ashtalakshmi Darshan Programme over the past year, helping foster stronger connections between the Northeast and the rest of the country.
Scindia also highlighted the programme’s alignment with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, emphasising youth engagement, the celebration of India’s diversity and the Northeast’s role in the country’s development journey.
