Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday flagged off the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train connecting Varanasi and New Delhi, marking the introduction of the next-generation overnight rail service on the route.

In a post on X, PM Modi said the service would improve the travel experience for passengers commuting between Delhi and Kashi. He also noted that it is the country’s second Vande Bharat Sleeper Train.
The train will operate via Prayagraj and Kanpur Central, strengthening connectivity between the national capital and several important destinations in Uttar Pradesh.
Emphasising the route’s religious and cultural significance, the Prime Minister said the service would benefit millions of devotees, tourists, young people and businesspeople. He said the train would connect faith with opportunity and tradition with modernity, making journeys to prominent destinations such as the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the Sangam more convenient.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also flagged off the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express services from Varanasi on Saturday.
The latest service follows the introduction of Vande Bharat Sleeper trains on the Howrah-Guwahati corridor and its return journey in January 2026.
With enhanced onboard amenities, advanced safety features and specially designed sleeper accommodation, the new service is aimed at improving the comfort and convenience of passengers undertaking long-distance overnight journeys.
