Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 141st International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session at Mumbai’s Jio World Centre on October 14, 2023. This significant gathering convenes IOC members to make pivotal decisions regarding the future of the Olympic Games. India is hosting the IOC Session for the second time, marking a gap of nearly four decades since its previous hosting.

The 141st IOC Session, taking place in India, symbolizes the nation’s commitment to promoting global collaboration, honouring sporting excellence, and advancing the Olympic values of friendship, respect, and excellence. It provides a platform for interaction and knowledge exchange among various stakeholders in the world of sports.

The event will be attended by the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, and other IOC members, in addition to prominent Indian sports figures and representatives from various sports federations, including the Indian Olympic Association.

This year’s 141st IOC Session is scheduled to be held in Mumbai from October 15 to 17. Although IOC Sessions have been a tradition since 1894, this marks only the second time India hosts the event. The previous occasion was the 86th session held in New Delhi in 1983.

India secured the rights to host the 141st session without competition during the 139th IOC session in Beijing, with an overwhelming 99 percent of the votes in favour. The Indian delegation, comprising Abhinav Bindra, the country’s first individual Olympic gold medallist, Nita Ambani, the first Indian woman to be elected an IOC member in 2016, Narinder Batra, the then IOA president, and sports minister Anurag Thakur, presented India’s bid.

Following India’s impressive performance at the Hangzhou Asian Games, there is a palpable sense of excitement among the nation’s sporting icons. The 141st IOC Session will be hosted at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex.
