Jadeja surpasses Kumble, Yuvraj to set new World Cup record for India

Indian bowlers are enjoying a remarkable run in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. While the batsmen have amassed large amount of runs, the bowlers have been exceptional in dismantling opposing batting orders.

Team India continued its dream run in the tournament with a commanding victory over the Netherlands last night, in Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

During the match, star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made history by claiming a two-wicket haul in the second innings. The versatile all-rounder surpassed the legendary Anil Kumble and Yuvraj Singh as the Indian spinner with the most wickets in a single World Cup edition. Jadeja’s tally reached 16 in this campaign, one more than Kumble (1996) and Yuvraj (2011). Additionally, Kuldeep Yadav is close behind with 14 dismissals, following his two-fer.

Kumble held the record for almost 27 years, securing 15 wickets in a single edition of the 1996 World Cup. Yuvraj Singh equaled this feat in India’s World Cup triumph in 2011, becoming the joint-leading wicket-taker.

Kuldeep Yadav is also in contention to become India’s leading wicket-taker as a spinner by the end of the tournament, having registered 14 wickets to his name.
