The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in response to Cyclone Michaung’s trajectory.

This cautionary measure has led to the closure of schools in Puducherry, Karaikal, and Yanam.

The likelihood of the cyclone reaching the Tamil Nadu coast by December 4th necessitates these precautions. Chennai is anticipated to experience sustained heavy rainfall until this date as the cyclone edges closer to the coastal areas.

Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary holds review meeting

In anticipation of Cyclone Michaung’s approach towards the Bay of Bengal, the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu conducted a comprehensive review meeting via video conferencing. This assessment aimed to evaluate the state’s preparedness for the cyclone’s potential impact. Notably, restrictions have been imposed on travelers and tourists at the Pichavaram Boat House on December 2nd and 3rd.

Advisory to fishermen and coastal communities

The Regional Meteorological Centre has projected significant rainfall in the upcoming two days, prompting Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister MK Stalin to urge officials to take essential precautions.

Furthermore, the weather department has issued a cautionary advisory to fishermen in specific areas of the Bay of Bengal and South West Bengal. They are advised against venturing into the sea for fishing or any related activities.
