Golden Globes nominations out; ‘Barbie’ leads with 9, Oppenheimer with 8

One of the most talked about movie of the year, ‘Barbie’ is leading the Golden Globes 2024 nominations. The movie is nominated in 9 categories, followed by its competitor Oppenheimer, which managed to score 8 nominations. With this, Barbie became the second most-nominated movie in the 81-year history of the show, tying it with “Cabaret.”

Barbie’s director Greta Gerwig is nominated for best director in a historic dual nomination for women. She will contend with Celine Song from “Past Lives”. Margot Robbie, the actress who played “Barbie” is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.

Meanwhile, Cillian Murphy, the lead actor of “Oppenheimer” has been nominated in the Best Performance category alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Bradley Cooper.

The various categories in which Barbie is nominated includes Best Picture, Musical or Comedy; Best Director, Motion Picture; Best Screenplay, Motion Picture; Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy; Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture; Best Original Song, Motion Picture (3 songs); Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.

Meanwhile, Oppenheimer is nominated for Best Motion Picture, Drama; Best Director, Motion Picture; Best Screenplay, Motion Picture; Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama; Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture; Best Supporting Actress, Motion Picture; Best Original Score, Motion Picture; Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.

The other movies that earned multiple nominations for the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards include “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Poor Things” (seven nominations each) and “Past Lives,” (five categories).

The Golden Globes Award honours the best of both film and television. In the television section, “Succession” is nominated in nine categories, while “The Bear” and “Only Murders in the Building,” tie in five categories.
