No plan so far to make RT-PCR testing mandatory for COVID at airports: Health Ministry

Amid a rise in coronavirus cases in India, the Health Ministry officials have stated that there are currently no plans to enforce mandatory RT-PCR testing for Covid-19 at airports for travelers in the country.

India revised its guidelines in July, eliminating the requirement for RT-PCR testing of a random two percent of incoming travelers.

As per official sources, India has reported 21 cases of the COVID-19 JN.1 sub-variant, with no significant increase in hospitalization rates. Additionally, it has been reported that COVID-19 is incidentally found in individuals hospitalized for other medical conditions, rather than being the primary reason for hospitalization.

Over the past two weeks, a total of 23 deaths have been reported in the country, with India recording 594 new Covid-19 infections on Thursday.

The number of active cases has increased from 2,311 on Wednesday to 2,669.
