Dense fog to prevail over northwest India during next 5 days: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that dense to very dense fog is likely to continue to prevail during morning hours in isolated pockets of northwest India during next 5 days.

The states of Punjab and Haryana will continue to face cold day in coming few days. According to the IMD, cold day to severe cold day is very likely to continue in some parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh on January 11 and 12 and in isolated pockets of Punjab during January 13–15. Isolated pockets of Punjab and Haryana will also face cold wave conditions on January on 11 and 12.

Uttarakhand will see cold day on January 11 and 12. Furthermore, cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are very likely to continue in isolated pockets of Rajasthan on January 11 and 12 and cold wave conditions in isolated pockets on January 13.

IMD has issued orange alert for several states on January 12 for cold wave. These include Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

Dense fog warning:

Dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail for a few hours in morning in some parts of Punjab and in isolated pockets over Haryana, Chandigarh during January 11 to 15. Further, dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail for a few hours in morning in some parts of East Uttar Pradesh and in isolated pockets over West Uttar Pradesh on January 11 & 12 and dense fog for subsequent 3 days, IMD said in its bulletin.

Dense fog conditions are also very likely to prevail for a few hours in morning in isolated pockets of Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jammu division on January 11; over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, north Madhya Pradesh on January 11 & 12 and Assam & Meghalaya, Mizoram & Tripura during January 11-15.

Rainfall update:

The weather agency shared in its press release that conditions are becoming favourable for the cessation of Northeast monsoon rains over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe and adjoining areas of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka around January 15.

However, under the influence of a fresh western disturbance, light rainfall/ snowfall is very likely at isolated places over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh on January 12 and 13.

Additionally, a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from January 16, which will cause light rainfall/ snowfall at isolated places very likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on January 16 and 17.

Further, light to moderate rainfall at isolated places is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep during next 24 hours and dry weather is expected thereafter.
