IMD forecasts cold spell, dense fog across North India over next 2 days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday that cold to severe cold conditions will persist in certain parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan over the next two days, followed by a significant decline in the cold.

Moreover, dense to very dense fog is expected to continue over northwest India during the next two days, gradually decreasing thereafter. An alert has been issued for Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and East Rajasthan from January 5 to 7.

Dense fog conditions are anticipated for a few hours in the morning in isolated pockets over east Uttar Pradesh from January 6 to 9; over west Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from January 6 to 8; and over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Odisha on January 6 and 7.

The IMD also stated that there will be no significant change in minimum temperatures over north India during the next five days.

Rainfall Forecast:
The weather agency predicts isolated light rainfall over northwest and central India from January 8 to 10. Additionally, there may be light to moderate rainfall over south peninsular India, with isolated heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu and Kerala during the next 3-4 days.

Between January 5 and 8, Tamil Nadu is likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning; Kerala from January 5 to 7; Lakshadweep on January 5, and south coastal Andhra Pradesh on January 7. Furthermore, isolated very heavy rainfall is expected over Kerala on January 5 and over Tamil Nadu on January 7.

The IMD also forecasts light rainfall/snowfall at isolated places over the western Himalayan region and light isolated rainfall over the plains of northwest India on January 8 and 9.
