IMD forecasts dense fog and cold conditions across North India for next five days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday that North India is likely to experience dense to very dense fog for the next five days, with cold day to severe cold day conditions expected to persist for the next two days before decreasing in intensity. The affected regions include parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, and Madhya Pradesh.

The forecast also indicates a likelihood of cold wave conditions in isolated areas of north Rajasthan from January 23-25, and over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh on January 23 and 24. Cold day to severe cold day conditions will continue in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh on January 23 and 24, with some areas affected on January 25. Additionally, cold day conditions will prevail in isolated pockets on January 26 and 27.

The Western Himalayan Region is expected to receive light rainfall or snowfall from January 25 to 28 due to the influence of two weak western disturbances. The presence of anti-cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal and cyclonic circulation over Marathawada and its vicinity may lead to light rainfall in Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, and Sikkim over the next 2-3 days. Moreover, Andaman & Nicobar Islands are predicted to experience light to moderate rainfall during January 24-28, with the possibility of heavy rainfall on January 25.
