PM Modi emphasises legislative efficiency in 84th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference

In an address at the 84th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed the pivotal role of legislative bodies in shaping India’s progress. Delivered via video message on Saturday, the Prime Minister highlighted the conference’s added significance following the 75th Republic Day.

Focusing on the need to enhance the functionality of legislative bodies, PM Modi underlined the critical role of efficient legislative assemblies and committees in a time where citizens closely scrutinize their representatives. He emphasized that the conduct of members directly influences the productivity of the assembly.

Recognizing the importance of state governments and their legislative assemblies in India’s development, PM Modi asserted that the progress of the nation relies on the advancement of its states. Discussing the streamlining of laws, he commended the central government’s efforts in repealing over two thousand redundant laws in the past decade, simplifying the judicial system and enhancing the ease of living for citizens.

In reference to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, the Prime Minister encouraged discussions aimed at increasing women’s participation and representation in legislative bodies. He emphasized the need to amplify efforts to empower women and boost their representation in committees, acknowledging the significance of such measures in a diverse country like India. Similarly, Modi stressed the necessity to increase the participation of youth in committees.

During the inaugural function, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged members to dedicate their time in the House to productive business. Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh acknowledged the historical challenge of maintaining discipline and decorum for Presiding Officers and highlighted the participation of 26 Presiding Officers in the inaugural session.
