Arriving in New Delhi this morning, the visit aims to strengthen India-UN relations and facilitate discussions on India’s priorities and global challenges, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
During his stay, Francis is scheduled to engage in crucial talks with India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S Jaishankar, focusing on key multilateral issues of mutual interest. The discussions are expected to contribute to the ongoing diplomatic dialogue between India and the United Nations.
As a mark of respect to Mahatma Gandhi, Dennis Francis will pay homage at Rajghat during his visit. The agenda also includes participating in a round table discussion on India’s advancements in Digital Public Infrastructure.
A highlight of the visit will be Francis delivering a public address at the prestigious Indian Council of World Affairs, where he is expected to share insights on Multilateralism and its role in fostering Peace, Prosperity, Progress, and Sustainability. This event is scheduled for Wednesday, offering an opportunity for a broader audience to engage with the United Nations General Assembly President’s perspectives.
Dennis Francis’s itinerary extends beyond the capital city, with planned visits to Jaipur and Mumbai. In Mumbai, he will pay floral tributes at the 26/11 memorial, commemorating the victims of the 2008 terrorist attacks. Additionally, Francis will visit the National Stock Exchange and address a session on “New Orientation for Reformed Multilateralism” organized by the Observer Research Foundation.
A notable inclusion in his visit is the participation as a State guest in the Republic Day Parade of Maharashtra on January 26th.
