The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) is organizing the ‘Poshan Utsav’ in New Delhi on February 29, aiming to advocate and spread the importance of proper nutrition.
The event will witness the presence of Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani, alongside Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).
During the event, the ministry will unveil the ‘Poshan Utsav Book’ and introduce a “cartoon coalition” in support of the POSHAN cause. Curated by the Deendayal Research Institute (DRI) and backed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the ‘Poshan Utsav Book’ is crafted to promote cultural heritage and traditional nutritional practices.
Designed as an atlas on food, the book provides insights from cultural, social, economic, and scientific angles. It aims to revive ancient nutritional traditions, facilitating knowledge exchange and intergenerational learning while serving as a comprehensive repository for celebrating the rich culinary heritage and nutritional diversity of the nation.
The program seeks to combat malnutrition and promote healthier lifestyles among children, utilizing captivating storytelling featuring their favourite cartoon characters. Through engaging Information Education Communication (IEC) materials, the initiative aims to drive positive behavioral changes across communities nationwide to achieve desired nutritional outcomes.
