In a recent series of statements on platform X, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, commended the government’s assertive strategy led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in tackling terrorism.

Shah emphasized the effectiveness of the government’s approach, particularly in countering left-wing extremism. He noted a substantial impact on this form of terrorism, saying that it is now in its final stages due to the government’s resolute actions. Shah credited the Modi government for actively addressing healthcare and education needs in regions affected by Naxalism, winning support from the local impoverished communities.

The Union Home Minister attributed the decline in left-wing extremism to the visionary policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He highlighted the comprehensive approach of the Modi government, focusing on development and security in areas plagued by Naxalism. This approach, in collaboration with state governments, has not only curtailed extremism but also built trust among the local population.

According to data released by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the decade from 2014-23 witnessed a remarkable reduction in Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-related violence by 52 percent. The death toll also saw a significant decline of 69 percent, dropping from 6035 to 1868 compared to the period from 2004-14. Incidents of leftist extremism decreased from 14,862 to 7,128 during the same timeframe.

Security forces experienced a notable drop in casualties due to Left Wing Extremism, with a 72 percent decline from 1750 in 2004-14 to 485 in the decade from 2014-23. Civilian deaths mirrored this trend, decreasing by 68 percent from 4285 to 1383. The number of districts witnessing violence reduced by 53 percent, from 96 in 2010 to 45 in 2022. Concurrently, the count of police stations reporting violence decreased from 465 in 2010 to 176 in 2022.

The comprehensive approach adopted by the Modi government has not only yielded positive results but has also fostered an environment of trust and collaboration, facilitating overall development in the regions affected by left-wing extremism.
