Amidst allegations of election tampering, workers and supporters of Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party of former PM Imran Khan, currently incarcerated, launched nationwide protests on Monday. They allege rigging in the general election held on February 8.
PTI supporters obstructed the Peshawar-Islamabad motorway, halting all traffic from 12:00 am on Sunday. The party claims votes were manipulated in eight provinces and one national assembly seat.
Demonstrations swept across Punjab, notably in Lahore, where police detained numerous PTI supporters.
According to local PTI leadership, police reportedly visited the homes of seven independent candidates supported by PTI in Rahim Yar Khan, following their February 8 election victories, allegedly pressuring them to join PML-N.
Elsewhere, political parties in Sindh voiced their discontent against purported rigging.
PTI staged a demonstration outside the Sindh headquarters of the election commission, while Jamaat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) blocked roads and Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) conducted sit-ins at various sites in Karachi.
JUI-F leaders and activists barricaded the highway linking Sindh and Balochistan, alleging that poll results were manipulated to favour the Pakistan Peoples Party.
