President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards to 94 artists for the years 2022 and 2023 in New Delhi on Wednesday.
In her address at Vigyan Bhawan, President Murmu emphasized the social purpose of art and the crucial role artists play in awakening social consciousness. She highlighted the contribution of Indian art to cultural diplomacy or soft power and its role in addressing rising mental health issues.
The President appreciated Sangeet Natak Akademi for promoting various art forms for the last seven decades. She said that the work done by the Akademi in the field of performing arts and intangible heritage is exemplary.
Due to health reasons, three awardees were unable to attend the ceremony. Nevertheless, the Akademi has assured the delivery of their plaques in the coming days, ensuring that every deserving artist receives their due recognition.
