The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad witnessed a plethora of records during the clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI), with the standout being the highest number of runs ever scored in a T20 contest.

The aggregate total of 523 runs, combining Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 277 and Mumbai Indians’ 246, stands as the most runs ever recorded in a T20 match in cricket history, eclipsing the previous record of 517 runs set in a match between West Indies and South Africa at Centurion in 2023.

Highest Aggregate in a Men’s T20 Match

1. 523 – SRH vs MI, Hyderabad, IPL 2024
2. 517 – SA vs WI, Centurion, 2023
3. 515 – QG vs MS, Rawalpindi, PSL 2023
4. 506 – Surrey vs Middlesex, The Oval, T20 Blast 2023
5. 501 – Titans vs Knights, Potchefstroom, CSA T20 Challenge 2022

Highest Team Total

The Sunrisers Hyderabad batters wreaked havoc on Mumbai Indians, setting a new benchmark for the highest innings total in Indian Premier League history. Heinrich Klaasen’s unbeaten 80, along with rapid fifties from Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, led to a relentless onslaught against the five-time IPL champions.

SRH’s record-breaking total surpassed the previous highest of 263 runs by Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India in Bengaluru in 2013, a match remembered for Chris Gayle’s monumental 175.

Most Sixes

The 8th match of the edition also saw a new record for the most sixes in a single game in the Indian Premier League. SRH smashed 18 sixes in their innings, amassing a massive 277/3 in their quota of 20 overs, while MI countered with 20 maximums during their chase, setting a new benchmark in the process.

The previous record stood at 33 sixes in a match, achieved during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s clash against Chennai Super Kings in 2018 and Rajasthan Royals’ encounter with CSK in 2021. RCB’s 2023 match against CSK also witnessed 33 sixes between the two sides.

Despite their best efforts, the Pandya-led Mumbai Indians fell 31 runs short in their chase, ending up 246/5 in their 20 overs.
