Cyclonic storm to cross Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts on May 25: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday said that a Depression lies over central Bay of Bengal which is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by May 25 morning and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by May 25 night.

The IMD further added that the cyclonic storm is very likely to cross Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara around May 26 midnight as a severe cyclonic storm.

Informing further, the IMD said that rough to very rough sea condition is likely over central and adjoining south Bay of Bengal on May 24. It would become high over central Bay of Bengal on May 25 and 26 and high to very high over North Bay of Bengal from the evening of 25 till morning of 27.

The IMD also advised fishermen not to venture into south Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea till May 24, central Bay of Bengal till May 26 and North Bay of Bengal from May 25 to 27. Fishermen out at sea have also been advised to return to the coast.

Informing about heat wave conditions in India, the weather agency said that heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are most likely to continue over plains of Northwest India and heat wave conditions over Western Himalayan Region, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat State during next 4-5 days.

Towards the south, isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Kerala during May 24-27.
