As the nation gears up for the fourth phase of the General Elections on Many 13th, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is leaving no stone unturned to ensure smooth and peaceful polling across various constituencies.
In a massive electoral exercise, polling will be conducted for 96 Parliamentary Constituencies spread across 10 States and Union Territories. Simultaneously, all 175 seats of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly and 28 seats of the Odisha Legislative Assembly will also witness voting.
To facilitate the electoral process, the Commission has extended polling hours in certain assembly segments of 17 Parliamentary Constituencies in Telangana, aiming to enhance voter participation. Moreover, meticulous arrangements have been made at all polling stations, including provisions for water, shelter, and fans, ensuring voter convenience.
Despite concerns about hot weather conditions, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts normal to below-normal temperatures in the areas where polling will take place, alleviating worries about heatwave conditions.
With over 19 lakh polling officials deployed across 1.92 lakh polling stations, the Commission aims to welcome over 17.7 crore voters, including a significant number of elderly and persons with disabilities (PwD) voters. Notably, the Home Voting facility for voters aged 85+ and PwD voters has garnered tremendous appreciation and response.
A robust security apparatus comprising flying squads, surveillance teams, and border check posts has been put in place to maintain law and order and prevent any form of inducement of voters. Additionally, 364 observers, including general, police, and expenditure observers, have been deployed to ensure utmost vigilance.
To facilitate voter identification, the Commission has provided 12 alternative documents besides the Voter ID card for identity verification at polling stations, aiming to streamline the voting process and ensure inclusivity.
