“House will benefit greatly from his insights and experience”: PM Modi praises Om Birla’s re-election as Lok Sabha Speaker

Om Birla was re-elected as Speaker of the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, garnering widespread support and praise from top government officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On social media platform X, PM Modi said, “I would like to congratulate Shri Om Birla Ji on being elected as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha for the second time. The House will benefit greatly from his insights and experience. My best wishes to him for the tenure ahead. @ombirlakota.”

The motion for Birla’s re-election was moved by Prime Minister Modi and seconded by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. It was adopted by the house through a voice vote, with the chamber echoing with “Ayes” and “Noes.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also commended Birla’s re-election, highlighting his “exemplary commitment to strengthening our parliamentary democracy.” Shah expressed his belief that Birla’s leadership would “reinforce the glory of our Constitution and the values enshrined in it.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised Birla’s knowledge of constitutional matters and parliamentary procedures. In a social media post, Singh said, “In his last term, he has very efficiently presented his capabilities to the country.” The minister expressed confidence that under Birla’s chairmanship, the proceedings of the House would run smoothly and “continue to pave new paths for the progress of India.”

Birla, a Member of Parliament from Kota, Rajasthan, was the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for the position. The opposition INDIA bloc had filed K Suresh as their candidate but did not press for a division vote.
