Uttarakhand has completed preparations for implementing three new criminal laws set to take effect across India on July 1, Chief Secretary Radha Raturi announced on Tuesday. The statement came during a video conference with all states, chaired by the Union Home Secretary. The three new laws – Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023 – will replace existing criminal codes.

Raturi outlined the state’s comprehensive preparation strategy, highlighting several key initiatives. In coordination with the Central Detective Training Institute (CDTI) and Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), 50 officers from various training centers have been given master trainer courses in Ghaziabad and Jaipur. Additionally, an Uttarakhand Police Handbook has been prepared to simplify the understanding of major laws.

To ensure widespread readiness, training has been decentralized to the district level. For employees not directly involved in investigations, AI-based online modules have been developed. Approximately 1,000 recruit constables and 500 head constables have received specialized training on the new laws. IPS officers and Senior Superintendents of Police were not left behind, receiving training from an Assistant Professor from the National Law University, New Delhi.

“We’ve made full preparations for the implementation of these new criminal laws,” Raturi said, emphasizing the state’s readiness for this significant legal transition. She also noted that all police personnel have been registered on the iGOT Karmayogi portal for further training.

The meeting was attended by Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar, Secretary Dilip Jawalkar, and other Home Department officials.
