Indian Navy Chief held bilateral discussions with his Bangladeshi counterpart in Dhaka

Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Indian Navy on Monday paid tribute to the bravehearts of the Bangladesh Armed Forces who made the supreme sacrifice during the Liberation War of Bangladesh at the Shikha Anirban (eternal flame) at Dhaka. Admiral Tripathi is on a four-day official visit  to Bangladesh. 

The Chief of the Naval Staff  held bilateral discussions with his counterpart Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, Chief of the Naval Staff, Bangladesh Navy at the Naval Headquarters, Dhaka on Monday afternoon.

The two Naval Chiefs discussed longstanding and robust ties between the two nations and navies; and initiatives for enhancing maritime cooperation, avenues for capacity building and capability enhancement, including coordinated operations towards bolstering interoperability in the maritime domain, said the Spokesperson of the Indian Navy on a social media platform ‘X’.

The CNS also held bilateral discussions with Air Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, Chief of the Air Staff, Bangladesh Air Force at the Bangladesh Air Force Headquarters on Monday. They exchanged greetings and discussed issues of bilateral interest, said an Inter-Service Public Relations, Bangladesh in a media release on Monday.

The visit is aimed to consolidate bilateral defence relations between India and Bangladesh and to explore new avenues for Naval cooperation, said the Ministry of Defence, Government of India in a press release issued on Sunday. 

During the visit, the CNS would also hold bilateral discussions with General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of the Army Staff, Bangladesh Army;  Lt Gen Mizanur Rahman Shameem (Principal Staff Officer, Armed Forces Division) and senior leadership of the Bangladesh Government. 

The CNS will also review the Passing Out Parade scheduled at Bangladesh Naval Academy (BNA) at Chittagong on 04 Jul 24. He would also address participants at the National Defence College, Dhaka and visit a few key defence facilities.

Moreover, Indian Navy Destroyer INS Ranvir arrived in Chattogram on Saturday for a week-long goodwill visit . The visit of INS Ranvir to Chattogram, Bangladesh coincided with the visit of Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi to Bangladesh. INS Ranvir is a ‘Guided Missile Destroyer’ and forms part of the front line combatant fleet of the Indian Navy on the Eastern Seaboard.
