Indian Naval ship Tabar conducts exercise with German Navy in Hamburg

Indian Navy’s frontline frigate, INS Tabar during the return leg from St Petersburg, Russia conducted a Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) with the German Navy off Kiel Canal on August 5, the Ministry of Defence said in a press release.

Prior to this, INS Tabar had visited Hamburg, Germany, from July 17 to 20, furthering the maritime relations between India and Germany. These engagements aim to strengthen the maritime partnership between the two nations.

“The conduct of the MPX between the Indian Navy and the German Navy off the Kiel Canal signifies the Indian Navy’s outreach and sustainability efforts, marking a significant milestone in maritime cooperation between the two countries,” the press release stated.

The exercise involved the Sea Lynx helicopter of the 3rd Squadron Naval Air Wing 5 (MFG5) of the German Navy and featured a series of advanced maritime operations. These included Ship Controlled Approaches, Winching exercises, and Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP) serials, demonstrating high levels of professionalism and commitment to enhancing collaborative efforts.

The Indian Navy highlighted the significance of the exercise on social media. “INS Tabar, during her return leg from St Petersburg, Russia, conducted a Maritime Partnership Exercise with the Sea Lynx of 3rd Squadron Naval Air Wing 5 (MFG5) of the German Navy off Kiel Canal in the North Sea,” the Navy said in a post on X.

“Operational exercises involved a series of advanced maritime operations, including Ship Controlled Approaches, Winching exercises, and VERTREP, aimed at imbibing best practices and enhancing collaborative efforts,” the Navy added in a subsequent post.

India and Germany share a robust relationship built on shared values, democratic principles, and a commitment to global peace and security. The Indian Navy remains dedicated to fostering partnerships with navies worldwide.

“The MPX with the German Navy reinforces the strong bilateral naval ties and our ability to work together in maritime security operations,” the release concluded.

This exercise underscores the growing maritime cooperation between India and Germany, highlighting their shared commitment to maintaining global maritime security.
