Prime Minister K P Sharma of Nepal presented the annual reports of the National Security Council (NSC) to President Ramchandra Paudel during an official function at the Office of Sheetal Niwas on Tuesday.

The reports, covering fiscal years 2079-80 BS (2022-23) and 2080-81 BS (2023-24), detail key decisions and actions undertaken by the Council, along with comprehensive analyses of international, regional, and national security issues.

During the submission, Prime Minister Sharma emphasized that the dimensions of security are evolving due to changing global dynamics. He noted that economic, strategic, and diplomatic rivalries among major global and regional powers are influencing Nepal’s economic and foreign relations.

The Nepal Prime Minister explained that the reports provide recommendations on diplomatic, strategic, economic, social, and security measures to address emerging challenges while ensuring the nation’s security remains central.

In accordance with Article 266(3) of Nepal’s Constitution, the NSC is required to submit its annual report to the President, who then presents it through the Prime Minister to the Federal Parliament. The NSC, chaired by the Prime Minister, advises the government on matters of national interest, security, and defense, including the mobilisation and oversight of the Nepal Army.

The Council’s membership includes ministers from defence, home affairs, foreign affairs, and finance, along with the chief secretary and the Nepali Army chief. The Ministry of Defence secretary serves as the member secretary of the Council.

The reports are expected to guide Nepal’s strategic planning amid evolving international and regional security scenarios.
