Nepal’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari gave a courtesy call to the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus at the latter’s office in Dhaka on Tuesday. Nepal and Bangladesh stressed the need to share experiences and best practices for a smooth, sustainable, and irreversible graduation as both nations are graduating from the LDC category in 2026.

On the occasion, Bhandari emphasized energy cooperation as a ‘win-win enterprise’ between Nepal and Bangladesh. It is expected that the early commencement of the export of 40-MW hydroelectricity from Nepal to Bangladesh through the Indian transmission lines will be a transformative step in enhancing energy cooperation at the sub-regional level.

Chief advisor Md Yunus stressed using hydropower potential towards achieving a net zero emission scenario.  The Ambassador thanked the Bangladesh government for the support and cooperation received in ensuring the safety and security of Nepali students in Bangladesh, during and after the recent protests.

Discussions were also held on Nepal-Bangladesh cooperation at the regional and international forums such as SAARC and BIMSTEC. Ambassador Bhandari handed over the letter of felicitations to Chief Advisor Md Yunus from the Prime Minister of Nepal K P Sharma Oli congratulating him on the present position.
