Haryana witnessed a 61 percent voter turnout by 5 pm on Saturday across all 90 assembly constituencies in the ongoing single-phase state elections, according to data from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Mewat led the voter turnout with 68.28 percent, while Gurugram reported the lowest at 49.97 percent. Other districts also saw a significant turnout: Yamunanagar registered 67.93 percent, Palwal 67.69 percent, Fatehabad 67.05 percent, Jind 66.02 percent, Mahendragarh 65.76 percent, Kurukshetra 65.55 percent, and Sirsa 65.37 percent.
Hisar recorded a turnout of 64.16 percent, Bhiwani 63.06 percent, Kaithal 62.53 percent, Ambala 62.26 percent, Rewari 60.91 percent, Panipat and Jhajjar both at 60.52 percent, Rohtak 60.56 percent, and Karnal 60.42 percent. Voter turnout in Charkhi Dadri stood at 58.10 percent, Sonipat at 56.69 percent, Faridabad at 51.28 percent, and Panchkula at 54.71 percent.
Voting began at 7 AM and concluded at 6 PM, with EVMs and VVPATs being sealed and secured for counting day. A total of 1,031 candidates are contesting across 20,632 polling booths. The results for both Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections will be announced on October 8.
Key political players in this election include the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), as well as alliances such as the Indian National Lok Dal-Bahujan Samaj Party (INLD-BSP) and Jannayak Janta Party-Azad Samaj Party (JJP-ASP).
In the previous 2019 Assembly elections, the BJP won 40 seats and formed a coalition government with the JJP, which secured 10 seats. Congress managed 31 seats in that election, though the JJP later exited the coalition.
The final outcome of this tightly contested election will be revealed on October 8.
