Harris vows to end Gaza war, lower healthcare costs and protect reproductive freedom at Michigan rally

Democratic candidate Kamala Harris pledged to end the Gaza war, bring hostages home, and ensure both Israel’s security and the Palestinian people’s rights to dignity and self-determination at a rally in Michigan, just days before the US presidential election.

Addressing supporters, Harris said, “This year has been difficult, given the scale of death and destruction in Gaza and the civilian casualties and displacement in Lebanon. As President, I will do everything in my power to end the war in Gaza, bring hostages home, alleviate suffering in Gaza, ensure Israel’s security, and enable the Palestinian people to realize their rights to dignity, freedom, security, and self-determination.” She added, “We are also committed to diplomatic efforts across the Israel-Lebanon border to protect civilians and foster lasting stability.”

Harris also highlighted the need for a new generation of leadership in the United States, promising to make healthcare a right, not a privilege. “It is time for a new generation of leadership in America, and I am prepared to provide that as the next President,” she declared.

Harris pledged to reduce healthcare costs, lower taxes for workers and middle-class families, and make housing and childcare more affordable. “If I have the opportunity to fight on your behalf as President, nothing will stand in my way. I will work daily to improve your lives by reducing the cost of living, banning corporate price gouging on essential goods, and making housing and childcare more affordable. My plan will cut taxes for workers, middle-class families, and small businesses, while also lowering healthcare costs, including home care for seniors. Healthcare should be a right, not a privilege only for those who can afford it,” Harris emphasized.

The vice president also committed to protecting reproductive rights, asserting that she would sign legislation to restore nationwide reproductive freedom if Congress passes it. “We will not go backward. This is a fight for the future and for fundamental freedoms, including a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body without government interference. When Congress passes a bill to restore reproductive freedom, I will proudly sign it into law as President.”

The US presidential election is set for November 5, with Harris competing against former President Donald Trump. While Trump seeks to reclaim the White House, Harris aims to make history as the first woman President of the United States.

A recent poll by the New York Times and Siena College shows Harris and Trump tied at 48 percent in the popular vote, following three months of intense political developments in the US.
