RBI gets bomb threat

RBI gets bomb threat in email written in Russian

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) received a bomb threat via email on Friday. The email, written in Russian, was sent to the official RBI website and threatened to blow up the building with explosives.

In response, the Mumbai Police have registered a case against the unknown sender at the Mata Ramabai Marg (MRA Marg) police station. Authorities are actively investigating the matter and working to trace the source of the email.

This follows a similar incident on November 16, when a bomb threat was received on the RBI’s customer care number. The caller, claiming to be the “CEO of Lashkar-e-Taiba,” made the threat after reportedly singing a song over the phone. The Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group was responsible for the 2008 Mumbai attacks, one of the deadliest in India’s history. Although the Mumbai Police responded promptly and conducted a search of the premises, nothing suspicious was found.

The latest bomb threat comes amid a surge in hoax threats across India, particularly targeting schools and airlines. On Friday, six schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails, leading to immediate action from the police. Delhi Police confirmed that they are following the standard operating procedure (SOP) for dealing with such threats, which involves thorough inspections of the affected locations.

The email threats to the schools included a warning about a potential bomb blast on December 13-14, urging recipients to respond to the email with demands, or face detonation. Despite the alarming nature of the threats, no explosives were found at any of the schools after detailed checks were conducted.

Earlier this month, on December 11, over 40 schools in Delhi were similarly targeted with ransom demands through bomb threat emails. While no explosives were discovered, the threats caused widespread panic and disruption.
