Mahakumbh 2025

Maha Kumbh: Over 2.5 million devotees take holy dip at Triveni Sangam on fourth day

Over 2.5 million devotees participated in the holy dip at Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, on the fourth day of the Maha Kumbh. The event occurred on Thursday evening at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

According to official data, by 5 p.m. on Thursday, more than 2.5 million people had taken the holy dip, which included approximately one million Kalpvasis and an additional 1.5 million pilgrims. So far, over 60 million devotees have participated in the Maha Kumbh, including over 35 million on Makar Sankranti, January 14.

To manage the influx of pilgrims, the Prayagraj administration established an AI-based lost and found centre to assist individuals separated from their groups. Additional Mela Adhikari Vivek Chaturvedi said the centre provides accommodation, clothes, and food. Cases where individuals could not reunite with their families have been resolved by arranging transportation to their homes at the administration’s expense.

On Wednesday, a delegation of 21 representatives from ten countries arrived at Arail Tent City in Prayagraj to participate in the holy dip. The delegation, invited by the Ministry of External Affairs’ External Publicity and Public Diplomacy Division, includes members from Fiji, Finland, Guyana, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United Arab Emirates.

The accommodations for the group were arranged at Arail Tent City through the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation. The event has seen global participation this year.

Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26. Upcoming dates for the main bathing rituals include January 29 (Mauni Amavasya – Second Shahi Snan), February 3 (Basant Panchami – Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
